One of the most acclaimed features of 2022, Todd Field’s Tár (starring Cate Blanchett) won a great amount of awards and was nominated for six Academy Awards.
I was involved in the creative process from the beginning of pre-production, aiding in reference and moods research, concepts and later Graphics research and finally, I oversaw Set Dec Graphics orders.
As a Graphic Artist, I overlooked the production of many props, set decoration (as well as featured art curation & edition), and construction elements. I also designed the work visual identity of the show, including logo and business cards for the team, and the Graphics photoshoot with Cate Blanchett.

The Visual Identity
I designed our team’s business cards & office signage.

The Magazine Stand
We developed and designed more than 30 newspaper and magazine covers two different scenes where Tár runs by a Magazine Stand.

Le Bernadin
We re-created the iconic restaurant Le Bernadin (New York City) in location, in Berlin. I researched many wave photos to find the perfect mood match. I edited it to look like a paint. We printed it on canvas and our scenic painters painted on it, so to give it an authentic texture.

The airplanes
We created two commercial airplanes, for two fictional airlines. One of them didn’t make the Final Cut and it’s not in the film – the Jet Manila flight.
We imported a plane skeleton from England to our stage and dressed and re-dressed it, to accommodate our two different flights.
I developed the Airline logos and on-board material as custom headrests, magazines & diverse airplane graphics. I also designed seamless patters for each of the planes. For the Jet Manila, we used the patterns to cover the walls (which we printed on heat-applied foil) and with inverted colours to cover the floor, on original, bespoke printed carpet.

KPL Air Business | First Class Flight
Featured when Tár flies to NYC for the second time. I designed the logo and the signs, and a pattern to cover the lavatory door. Also on-board elements as the airline magazine and headboards.

Jet Manila
Here we needed an outdated plane flying South Asia, where Tár flies coach towards the end of the film.
I created the logo and then a pattern using an element of the logo. The pattern stamped the walls and on reversed colors, the carpet.

Tár childhood home
This set was built in stage, in Berlin, from scratch.

The Hotels
We re-created the presidential suite of the iconic Carlyle Hotel (New York City) in location in Berlin. From the pattern on the carpets to personalised embroidered pillow cases, every detail was carefully thought and many graphics were produced – hotel stationary, gift cards, room service menus and all hotel signage and graphic details.
At the end, Tár stays in a Hotel in Manila, which is a considerable decay from the glamorous Carlyle. It was also created in location in Berlin, and for it we printed photo wallpapers and a whole set of Hotel paraphernalia.
